A sitcom about a high-spirited young woman who moves to the city to start a new life working at a TV station.
At age 30, small town girl MARY finds she’s tired of waiting around for the guy she thought was going to be “the one” and drops everything to try to make it on her own in the big city. After Mary answers a classified ad for a secretary at a dysfunctional, low-rated television news show, she convinces the head of the news team with her obvious drive that she’d be a good associate producer.
At first Mary is a fish out of water in her new life, a country girl trying to adjust. But Mary has a fiercely independent nature, and soon she’s able to adjust to her new families at work and at home. At the office Mary labors to impress her gruff boss LOU, tolerates vain anchorman TED, and bonds with MURRAY the unpretentious copywriter. At home Mary’s nosy landlord PHYLISS entangles her in schemes to find a husband, while her plainspoken upstairs neighbor RHODA provides wisecracking commentary on life.
Though Mary isn’t exactly lucky in love, with a seemingly endless string of failed dates and disastrous parties to her name, it’s a burden she can cope with after finding these new friends who are a constant source of laughter.
